In the Mile High City for a couple of days? We have 1 and 3 - day itineraries to help you plan your Denver vacation. Let us make some suggestions on how to spend your days in Denver and the surrounding area. We hit the highlights and recommend some lesser-known attractions too. Finding out what to do in Denver is as easy as 1-2-3.

One Day in Denver:
Start your day exactly 1 mile above sea level. Climb up to the 15th step on the west side of the State Capitol Building. Standing here, you are exactly 5,280 feet above sea level—one mile high. Take in all the beauty and take a Polaroid to put up in the cubicle when you get back to work. Free tours of the Capitol are offered on weekdays and offer visits to the Senate and House of Representative chambers.  Grab some lunch at one of the nearby restaurants and re-fuel for your afternoon. Spend your afternoon at the Flying W Ranch, an old western town reminiscent of the late 1800s, and then enjoy an authentic supper and the famous Flying W Wranglers stage show.

Three Days in Denver:
If you have a few extra days in Denver, follow the one-day plan and make sure you see Central City & Black Hawk after your first day. Spend a day at each location. Both of these towns are 35 miles NW of Denver. It takes approximately one hour on the mountain roads. Don’t forget to check the carburetor if your car is acting funny, the elevation will cause eastern cars to run like a two-legged dog!
These two old gold-mining towns have come alive and are booming once again with legalized casino gambling. Watch your back for cowboys shouting, “draw”! Historic architecture with Old West decor mix with the excitement of 30 casinos offering more than 8,000 slot machines as well as black jack and poker. Watch out for the one-arm bandits, they aren’t exactly giving money away!

Some other attractions you can visit are: Central City Opera House (don’t leave until the fat lady sings), the Lost Gold Mine, where you walk through an old mine shaft and learn how hard-rock mining was done in the late 1800s, and the Teller House, which was an old hotel where President Grant once stayed. It is also famous for the “Face on the Barroom Floor,” a painting of a woman done literally on the bar room floor.
